Yanna Palomino Torres, born on February 24 , 1982, in Cienfuegos, Cuba.
From a very young age Yanna presents a big interest in fine arts , as her own way to express her self to the world. Her firts stepts started with a very strong creative caracter in a lot of diferent art competitionsfor young artists until the age of 12.
Then in between the age of 13 to 15, she takes classes of the secondary level of Basic Industrial Desing and Drowing and later wins 3 different nationals prices. Soon after, she was the only one choosen amongst a lot of young artists from her province to study in the Academy of Fine Arts ‘Oscar Fernardez Morera ’ , in Trinidad, Cuba. During her estudies she presents a very hight creative level to studie not only her speciality but also others, that are incluided in her diploma like :
Contemporary Artistic Creation, Tripot Painting , Model Sculpture, Engraving Print Art ,Set Disgn , Conservation and Restauration of the Decorative Arts and other many subjects that took part on her development not only as an artist but also as a capable teacher for the superior level studies .
Durring these 4 years of studying in the Academy she did not only succed in her studyies but asweel increased her artistic curriculum with different exipitions of her art and competitions not only in different provinces of the country but asweel abroad like Rio de janeiro and Spain were she competed and won 2 and 3 price. The theme she uses in her art durring this periot is based on the sexual female impresionisme and the performatic instalation. One of her last pieces during this periot with the name Casta, Inmaculada, Certa series got the first prise in one of the most popular art competitions in Havana, Cuba dedicated to the artist San Alejandro and with the sama piece she was selected for her superior studyies at the Superior Institude of Art (ISA) of Havana were she begone studying at the age of 19. Here she and 4 other girls founded group 609 which is a group of performatic arts.
Group 609 was characterised for the influence of the theme of the cuban feminisme projected from a progressive and ironic female point of view of Cuban women. Themes like La protesta ( the protest) el cuadrado ( the square) En el silencio del azul reina la pasion del rojo (In the silence of the blue queen the passion of red) Sabana (sheets) el tambor( the tampor) La fuente ( the fountain) and many more pieces gave this young group a national and international character of the highest artistic level. Their work was selected and presented at the international latin american film festival 2003 and at the Vienal of Havana 2004. This same year they were published in magazines like THE NEW YORK TIMES and in a german-cuban book named The encyclopedia of contemporary Cuban art. A compilation of these works was recorded on a video of 45 minutes where it was shown in Europe and in Universities in the United States such as the university of NEW YORK and SAN FRANSISCO and in France where it won the first prise for the second time in SALON de PARIS. After this Yanna and her group 609 were invited to these universities in the United states to give masterclasses and even untill resently they were invited to give confrences at the Institude Superior of Art Havana Cuba and were asked to give permision to use their work as teaching material at the same university for contemporary art subjects.
At the age of 21 she decides to exipit her solo work in Cyprus were she forms 2 exipitions with the help of the cuban empasy in cyprus in Limassol and Nicosia. These 2 exipitions were named So it is a tropical Paradice and had a performatic presentation of the artist together with the art Ikepana of decoration and live cuban music and dance which gave the ironic essence of Cuba from the point of view of the tourist.
During this year she has students from the age of 6 to 16.
At the age of 23 she is accepted by Willem de Kooning and University of Hogeschool Rotterdam The Netherlands do do her 2nd bachelor degree in Europe. In her first year Yanna works with fotography techniques, performance and public intervention based on subjects like Cuba que linda es Cuba ( Cuba beautifull Cuba) Like de Yuma, In between worlds and others which were realised in cuba, cyprus and Holland. Here she creates a theme more intimate and personal femenin which gives a new perspective at her creative work were the camera is a wedness of something more than a performance but more of every day life of the artist viewed from the inside. During this periot pieces like No me hables( don’t speak to me) , esperando por ti ( waitting for you) , la dama de rojo ( the laydy in red) and Flores Dormidas en Estanque con flores( sleeping flowers in a fish tank with flowers), were presented in the personal exipition of the artist named “ En el oscuro desierto de mi mente”(In the dark desert of my mind) with which after graduated with her second Bachelor in fine Arts.
