Biografia
El artista nace en la ciudad de Montevideo en 1964.
Acerca de la obra:
Inspirado por el trabajo de los pintores Pablo Picasso, Amadeo Modigliani, y Tamara de Lempicka, entre otros exponentes de las corrientes de principios del S XX, el pintor uruguayo, Nelson San Julián crea un estilo propio, marcado por el Art Decó.
Debido a su amistad dentro del círculo de la Librería “El Aleph” de la Ciudad Vieja montevideana, toma contacto directo con libros y publicaciones que de otra manera estarían lejos del conocimiento público. Así es como lee revistas de arte de la época de diversos orígenes, francesas, alemanas e italianas. Allí toma contacto con el Planismo, Cubismo, Neo Cubismo y Art Decó. Debido a eso conoce a los Escultores Paul Manship, Raymond Delamarre, Donald De Lue y Pierre Turin. En lo pictórico toma influencias de André Derain, André Lhote, y Jean Dupas. A nivel local queda muy impresionado por la conocida revista uruguaya “La Pluma”. También se destaca la gran influencia de la inmortal “Escuela Montevideana”, de aquellos artistas uruguayos como José Gurvich, Carmelo de Arzadúm, Rafael Barradas y Melchor Méndez Magariños, que supieron captar la esencia de su tiempo. También por Escultores Uruguayos de la talla de José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín y Antonio Pena. De esta forma, toma contacto con todos los movimientos artísticos de inicios del siglo XX y finales del XIX. Sería en esta conocida librería donde vende sus primeras obras ya definidas por su estilo característico. Una gran mezcla de ismos y corrientes creativas que estudiaron el movimiento y el cuerpo humano como pocas veces se hizo en la historia del arte.
Nelson San Julián se inicia en este nuevo mundo donde los estilos están mezclados entre sí, vanguardias, formas y colores. Siendo un artista que se destaca por el contenido específico del gesto típicamente Art Decó y su luz volumétrica, pudiendo sintetizar la figura en sus últimos componentes, pero guardando la anatomía geométrica y la conciencia del volumen, guiado por el Planismo y el Neo Cubismo. Es con las series temáticas, donde se siente más libre para poder desarrollar variantes de un mismo tema, no agotando así la idea original. Por el contrario, despliega todo un abanico de experiencias y posibilidades, quedando abierta cada serie a una nueva interpretación, ya que no se agota en sí misma.

Due to his friendship within the circle of the "El Aleph" Bookshop in Montevideo's Old City, he makes direct contact with books and publications that would otherwise be far from public knowledge. This is how you read art magazines of the time from various origins, French, German and Italian. There he makes contact with Planism, Cubism, Neo Cubism and Art Deco. Because of that he meets the Sculptors Paul Manship, Raymond Delamarre, Donald De Lue and Pierre Turin. In the pictorial it takes influences from André Derain, André Lhote, and Jean Dupas. Locally, he is very impressed by the well-known Uruguayan magazine "La Pluma". The great influence of the immortal “Escuela Montevideana”, by those Uruguayan artists such as José Gurvich, Carmelo de Arzadúm, Rafael Barradas and Melchor Méndez Magariños, who knew how to capture the essence of their time, also stands out. Also by Uruguayan sculptors of the stature of José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín and Antonio Pena. In this way, it makes contact with all the artistic movements of the beginning of the 20th century and the end of the 19th. It would be in this well-known bookstore where he sells his first works already defined by his characteristic style. A great mix of isms and creative currents that studied the movement and the human body as it was rarely done in art history.
Nelson San Julián begins in this new world where styles are mixed with each other, avant-gardes, shapes and colors. Being an artist who stands out for the specific content of the typically Art Deco gesture and its volumetric light, being able to synthesize the figure in its last components, but keeping the geometric anatomy and the consciousness of volume, guided by Planism and Neo Cubism. It is with the thematic series, where he feels freest to be able to develop variants of the same theme, thus not exhausting the original idea. On the contrary, it displays a whole range of experiences and possibilities, leaving each series open to a new interpretation, since it does not exhaust itself.
